I am unemployed and searching in a futile job hunting market right now and can not contribute to it. l was laid off and transfered 48k of the 59k from an employee plan...i do not think a match is an option. i'm 48 single in CA. and worried.

It looks like u r down 33.89% at the moment. If u sold, then no.

If u r still holding the underline investments, then it demands on what the investments will do. If they r large cap (S&P 500) solid companies then over time prob. The prob is that the investment(s) will have to soar big time to recover.

Example:
investment xyz was $20.00
now trading $10.00
The investment has to double to go back to $20

If u r holding specialty funds, sector funds, then l have no idea unless l knew the holdings.

When the market turns at one point we will have some huge rallies. A double, not likely but 20-28% is possible. But if this happens, l would be a seller if ur investment time frame is under 5 years.
