um,having owed an american express,they want you to pay the full amount when you get the bill.that is why allot of people do not use it.and they also have red,black(for the super rich)ive worked in retail once and a russian millionaire would roll up in a maybach and use that for shopping.

It depends on the type of American Express card that u have. The traditional AmEx cards, like the Green, Gold, & Platinum, r charge cards with no line of credit that u must pay in full a the end of that month is billing cycle. These cards generally require an annual membership free, but there r never any finance charges since ur balance must always be paid in full.
Their more recent cards, such as the Optima or Blue, r like typical credit cards that have a credit limit & involve finance charges if the balance is not paid in full at the end of the billing cycle. The interest rates may vary by card.

If it is a charge card like the green, gold, or platinum card then the balance must be paid in full. If it is a credit card like the blue or clear card then you can carry a balance.
