Do you think the news reporting is helping the average person in the street when it comes to what is going on with the current Banking crisis, or is this news only adding to the potential for panic?

The media create hysteria around anything, it is their primary function. Personally, l love Credit Crunch as part of a nutritious breakfast.

Definitely, they're only interested in shifting papers and headlines like ''DAY OF DOOM'' is what sells. The truth is, a majority of us are not going to be that badly effected, yet

they have helped cause hysteria in the general public which has caused people to withdraw money from banks which in turn affects the banks financial situation so yes they can cause serious problems, a good example of this is northern rock a uk bank that was nationalised a while ago. despite Gov. saying money was ok the media sent out a different message and the account owners withdrew huge amounts which caused the bank to totally collapse needing the Gov to nationalise it

Yes is not that the media is job. Every topic of concern the media escalates to ''hysteria''. l think they love to have people panic. The one argument they have is ''freedom of the press''.

When you come to realise a small group of bankers by the name of Rothschild control the governments, all the world banks & the media with it. You will see things in a different light so the answer to this question goes without saying.

l think it is both ways. On the one hand, the media does want to sensationalize, because it drives up ratings. On the other, if they really went all out with making people panic, everyone would be withdrawing their money from banks and investments, which really would cause a major crisis. So l think they're trying to be moderate about it.

l think we need to know. There is no way l would say they should not be reporting this. And the news is pretty dire.

l totally think the media is potraying this far too negatively. Every report uses ''crisis ''meltdown ''catastrophic etc.

l am shopping for stocks and funds and will make a ton of purchases when l think the time is right. So for me the hysteria is good as it drives the price down. Keep it up media!

No
.
This is history & we r watching it happen
.
The greed of Wall Street caught up with it
.
And the whole world has to pay for it
.
Just yesterday the x CEO of Lehman said in the last 7 years his income from Lehman was $480,000,000 1/2 a billion dollars
.
And $10,000,000 was given to him the first of the year as a bonus
.
And he is involved in choosing who is on the board that decides what his pay is to be
.
We watched it on CNN yesterday l taped it an sick ning
.

media is a bullshit , it can make 0 to herro , day to night, white to black. all the reports come from the reporters and reporters repeat what they are asked to
couzo     Reply with quote
Do not blame the media for the bad news. Blame us to sit, watch and get all riled up. The Media job is to report. The Viewers or listeners job is to ignore, tune off, turn off or debate issue.

Of course it is adding to the hysteria. That is the nature of the media, broadcast media in particular. They care about ratings and filling air time, not proportionality or accuracy of their ''news.''

yes and no. yes-cause news promotes or dissipates investor confidence, plus, it confuses the average man on the street into making often irrational decisions prompted by fear.
No- cause news is a social reality, when things were good, they were reported, now that they arent too good, the present financial crises should get corresponding attention, plus, News is not always news until its bad news-so now, news will thrive in these present circumstances.
i rest my case
